CROSSROAD – CHAPTER SEVENTEEN

CHAPTER 17 –
© MOMOH GIFT

Ah! What sort of bad luck is this? I had never had an encounter with a madman before talk more of an invisible madman.

I know that the devil is at work. They don’t want me to succeed in life.

Anyway! Whether they like it or not, I will prosper. I will never continue to be poor in this life.

I’m just happy that I haven’t withdrawn the money yet before that madman did that nonsense.

Oh! I felt so embarrassed today. Everyone thought I was mad because of my reactions to that madman.

I’m truly happy that I quickly behaved well before they chained me and then sent me to a psychiatric hospital thinking I had gone mad.

What will I tell this madam now? Won’t she think that I am irresponsible for allowing a mere madman to snatch a bag from me? Won’t she feel very disappointed in me for wasting all those expensive items by being very careless? No! I won’t tell her anything.

When she asks me, I will tell her I am using the items but can’t see any changes in my body or better still I will need to go and buy some other cream, soap, and perfume in a nearby supermarket that will make my skin glow the way she wants because I can’t afford to lose this woman for anything at all in this life.

May God continue to punish that madman who has decided to ruin my own life today as if I am the cause of his own predicament.

Oh! It shall never be well with you this madman.

What am I even saying? He is mad already and his life is useless too.

May he never regain his sanity again. Stupid man.

Anyway! Let me just sleep a little. I am very tired already. Today was a mixture of joy and sorrow for me.

                      *. *. *

Oh! Honey! Please hurry up now! We are very late already. We need to be in the hospital on time so that we can pray with Miss Tayo before the visitation time elapses.

You know they are very strict with their rules and regulations over there.

I really want us to pray with her today and also encourage her to stand firm for God.

We should be on our way right now dear. Please come out on time. The time is not on our side at all. Elder Emmanuel called his wife as he stood by the door outside.

I’m really sorry for the delay my lovely husband.

I was having a word of prayer for Bro Ade.

It’s just that I have been having these strange feelings about bro Ade and since that very day you asked me to join you to always intercede for him, I have never stopped doing that. But recently, I started feeling strange about him. I feel as if something bad is about to happen to Bro Ade.

Though I remembered you told me that day that the elders were plotting evil against him.

That very day, I prayed for him concerning that particular issue and I had peace because I knew God had answered me.

But since yesterday, I had this strong urge to intercede powerfully for Bro Ade.

It seems something far greater than him is coming to attack him.

He really needs the grace of God to overcome this great battle.

Hmmm! I’m really surprised to hear this because this is the same strong urge I had concerning him yesterday. Though I prayed for him it is still very strong in my heart.

Seriously honey, I really don’t understand why I have this great connection towards bro Ade despite the fact that I am not one of the elders that is very close to him.

Even with the distance I have with him, I am always at alert if something bad is about to happen to him and whenever I say a word of prayer for him, the Lord answers immediately.

I really don’t know but I truly love that young man so much. I know that his parents wherever they are would be very proud of him. He is the kind of child every responsible parent would desire to have.

That’s very true my dear husband. The surprising thing is that I do refer to him as my son whenever I see him in my dreams.

Oh! I even forgot to tell you what happened in church the last two weeks.

I was just sitting down alone as usual to avoid all the insults of those women who don’t want to associate with me and who do call me barren indirectly.

I was somehow sad that very day then all of a sudden, Bro Ade came out from the children’s class and walked straight to me.

He greeted me and for the first time, someone called me “mummy” with so much love and a big smile.

I looked at him with shock and he said: “Mummy you look very beautiful, please stop being sad because you will laugh soonest just like Sarah”.

What! Did he actually say those words to you? Wow! That’s awesome.

Yes oh! I stood up and hugged him. That was truly a day I will never forget. I felt like the happiest woman on planet Earth that day.

I was really encouraged and I knew that God actually sent him to comfort me.

That young man is truly a blessing and I will continue to pray for him. He needs our prayers so much.

Yes, my dear. He needs our prayers and we would stand just like his parents would be doing wherever they are which I’m very sure of and intercede mightily for him.
It is well.

God will see him through and help us as well to continue to wait on Him patiently for a miracle.

He is a God who never lies. He has promised to give us a child even in our old age and we will continue to wait for that promise to be fulfilled. I am very sure that He will never disappoint us.

Amen! Thanks for always being a supportive, caring, and loving husband. God bless you abundantly my crown. You are indeed the best any woman can ever wish for.

Thank you for all you have done and mostly for the fear and love you have for your creator. I am really proud of you my dear lovely husband.

Thank you so much, my dear wife.
You are the best as well and I know we both will laugh soonest by the grace of God.

Amen!

Wow! Here we are.

Thank God there is still much time for us to pray before the visitation time elapses.

Let’s quickly get into the ward and pray with Miss Tayo. She really needs our encouragement right now.

Yes! That’s very true. I know God will heal her soon.

                           *. *. *

What! Mummy, why did you commit such an abominable act? What did you gain for ruining the life of an innocent woman? You were supposed to be a nurse with Godly behavior.

A nurse who fears God and does what is right no matter what.

You allowed your greed to overwhelm you and now the result is what I am facing right now. The doctors don’t seem to understand what is actually wrong with me since I was admitted here.

Only for the pastor to reveal this great secret of yours which you had concealed for so many years.

I’m so sorry my daughter! All those things happened in the past when I never had my personal encounter with Jesus. I was too eager to make money then by all means. I saw the opportunity of having a lot of money when that woman asked for my favor that particular day. Though I declined at first, then she offered me a huge sum of money which would have taken more than twenty years before my salary could sum up to that amount.

I saw it as a very big opportunity for me and then I agreed since the baby wouldn’t be killed.

Oh! I am really sorry. Most times I find it very difficult to forgive myself whenever I remember such an evil deed I committed.

I have prayed countless times and asked for forgiveness from the Lord. I had even tried to locate the address of the real mother of the child just to confess and ask for forgiveness but I was told that they had relocated to another state by their neighbors.

I am really sorry my dear daughter for causing all these problems for you.

Mummy! I am dying in every minute that passes by. I am moving to my grave slowly. The consequences of your sin are now having it’s effect on me. The pastor says the solution is to find the mother of that baby and seek her forgiveness.

Please what happened to the baby afterwards mummy?

Hmmm! Immediately the woman who was desperately in need of a baby as she had lost her own child moments after the delivery paid me half of the money, I quickly swapped the baby and gave the other woman the dead baby. The other woman couldn’t bear the news of losing her baby so she told her husband she wanted to leave the hospital immediately while the dead baby was buried.

She left that same day evening against the doctor’s wish. But unfortunately, the other woman who made me swap the baby died the next day due to some complications. The most surprising thing was that no one came to the hospital to claim her body or the baby which was very unusual.

So I quickly suggested to the hospital management to take the baby to the motherless home since no one was coming to take the baby.

I did that because of the guilt in my heart. Since it was a private hospital, I was sent with a doctor to take the baby to the motherless babies home and that was where I dumped the baby.

Ah! That was pure wickedness. Who knows what the real mother would have faced due to the death of that baby.

But why didn’t you go to the motherless homes to seek the child’s mummy? They may have some information concerning the child, right?

That was twenty-six years ago my daughter.

When I got there two years after receiving my salvation, I was told that the orphanage was relocated somewhere else.

Then I stopped searching which was a very big mistake because I was thinking that I didn’t need to worry about it anymore since God had forgiven me already.

I never knew that the consequences were still waiting for me.

Since the day the pastor told me that it was the reason why you are in this sick bed, I have been praying and crying to God for help.

He has assured me that His presence is with me and He is doing everything for his glory.

Hmmm! This is indeed a great problem. I really don’t know what to say anymore.

Oh! Lord please intervene and save me from all these.

Please don’t let me die for the sin I knew nothing about. Have mercy on my mum and give her directions to make things right so that I can be whole again.

Sis Tayo! Please don’t cry again. The Lord will do everything.
He is a God who never lies.

He would lead us in the right way and give us the solution to this problem we are facing right now.

I need you to believe that you will not die. I know God is using this sickness to reveal this great secret that has been concealed for a long time by making your mum feel what it means to lose a child. The grace of God will speak for you, my dear sister.

Hmmm! Thank you so much, pastor.

                              *. *. *

Hello! Good day, Miss Tayo! So sorry for coming this late. The nurse outside was just delaying us with some forms she gave us to fill. Good day sir and ma.

Good day, Elder Emmanuel. Thank you so much sir for all your labor of love over me.

I am sincerely grateful sir. I will say the grace and mercy of God have been speaking for me.

Though it hasn’t been easy going through all the pains even when the doctors do not know what is actually wrong with me, God has really been faithful.

Thank you so much too mummy for taking me as your daughter and for all your motherly advice since I came to this town. God bless you sir and ma. You are indeed the best neighbor anyone can ever have.

Lest I forget, sir and ma! Please meet my biological mother and our pastor who just arrived here some hours ago. Mummy, pastor, please meet Elder and Mrs Emmanuel Oluwatobi. They have been a great blessing to me since I came to this town.

Wow! Nice to meet you, pastor and madam.

Oh! Great to meet you too sir and ma. Tayo has told us so many things about both of you. You are indeed a true ambassador of Christ.

Thank you for showing the love of Christ to my spiritual daughter. You shall surely reap your reward in hundred fold.

Amen, thank you so much, pastor.

What! Mr. and Mrs. Emmanuel Oluwatobi?

Yes, ma! Good day, ma! Any problem ma? Elder Emmanuel asked Tayo’s mum looking very confused by the way she called their name.

Excuse me Ma! Your face looks very familiar though I really can’t remember where I have seen you before. I think we have met before. Mrs. Emmanuel said looking at Tayo’s mum closely.

Please excuse me for a minute. I’m really sorry. I will be right back. Pastor please I need to see you outside. She quickly walked outside leaving everyone confused including her daughter who felt embarrassed.

Alright! Please excuse us for a minute sir and ma. I think she is just too stressed up by a lot of things going through her mind.

No problem sir. Elder Emmanuel replied.

Ah! Ah! Mummy Tayo! What happened to you? Why did you behave in such a manner to those visitors? Please talk to me Mum Tayo.

Ah! Pastor!

Yes! What is the matter? Okay please calm down a bit and talk to me ma. Do you know them anywhere before?

Yes, pastor. I know them, pastor. They are… They are…

They are who? Oh! Mum Tayo! Please you really need to calm down so that you can talk properly.

Pastor they are the ones?

Which one are you referring to Mum Tayo?

They are…. the original parents of the baby I was talking about.

These are Mr. and Mrs. Emmanuel Oluwatobi. Do you notice that the wife is also trying to recognize my face? She has seen me before.

I was the nurse who helped her in the delivery of her baby so many years ago.

The same baby we were talking about a few minutes ago before they came in.

What! You mean they are the same people you have been looking for all these years?

Yes, pastor! They are the ones. I’m so ashamed of myself right now.

I really can’t look at them anymore. I feel so guilty right now.

Oh! What a world! And they have been the same people caring for your own daughter since she came to this city. Ah!

Please pastor what should I do right now? My daughter is dying gradually on that bed and God seems to have answered my prayers by bringing the solution to me, but I just don’t know what to do right now.

How do I begin to confess to them all the evil I had done in the past? What will happen to me after my confession to them? Pastor please I need your advice right now.
